Southside
Precast Products was called upon to provide their Architectural
Precast Stone for the new dorm project designed by FJF
Architects of Rochester, NY. The work consisted of window
sills, banding and special lintels for windows and structural
support for a port cortchea at the main entrance of
each dorm. Both buildings were designed as mirror images
of each other.
The Architect introduced a center reveal for each Arch
and port cortchea pieces. This simple design was done
at a minimum cost and put a beautiful finishing touch
to the Precast Stone pieces. It was also suggested that
Southside Precast add a chamfer along the bottom of
the port cortchea similar to the reveals to offer a
uniform and refined finishing touch. The bands broke
up a solid brick face wall and gave a natural transition
to the elevations with both brick and siding. The window
sills offer a traditional look and will enhance the
seal/seat of the window with a clean flat surface to
sit on for years of trouble free service.
The
Precast Stone used is a beautiful custom blend of white
aggregates with a pigmented portland cement depicting
the traditional look of Indiana Limestone. The pieces
were lightly etched to bring out the reflective surface
of the aggregate.
With
a conservative but smart design Nazareth College has
two new uniquely designed buildings with traditional
Precast Stone meant to last a life time worthy of Nazareth
Colleges long tradition.
