Sills
All masonry designs should include sills to help wash water, snow
and ice away. This ensures a long lasting seal at the window.
Precast
Stone sill advantages are:
- Allow
the least amount of moisture penetration of all other types available
for permanent buildings (see specifications)
- Brick
allows moisture through an irregular seal, while mortar joints
allow moisture in
-
Lugged sills offer a traditional masonry design where the end
of the sills extend out further than the M.O. of the window, supporting
the brick
- Architecturally
pleasing since the lugged portion can wash into the
sill body and have a pleasing profile
- Often
incorporated with bands that fit the lug profiles
- Slip
sills add to the window line and give the required seal for the
window to sit on
